Terror by night! The village of Orlane is dying. Once a small and thriving community, Orlane has become a maze of locked doors and frightened faces. Strangers are shunned, trade has withered. Rumors flourish, growing wilder with each retelling. Terrified peasants flee their homes, abandoning their farms with no explanation. Others simply disappear…
Against the Cult of the Reptile God takes place in 573 CE, several years before the chaos of the Greyhawk Wars tore through the Flanaess. This often overlooked Greyhawk story brings player characters into a small village populated with a cast of NPC’s reminiscent of the classic village of Hommlet.
But this module takes us out of the local village setting to adventure in two major geographic regions: The Dim Forest and the Rushmoor Marsh.
My adaptation of the module follows a first-person narrative report from Father Tabor, a halfling cleric of devoted to the goddess Merikka. The story begins as the church of Merikka has sent Father Tabor to the village of Orlane to investigate reports of a sinister element at work in Farvale. He is to be accompanied by two professional investigators and a ranger of the Dim Forest who is to serve as his guide and guardian. Together, the small band of adventurers uncover a sinister evil in the shadows of Orlane.
